Today was Jake's first full half-day at preschool, so naturally, I wanted to hear all the exciting details. Here's what I found out, straight from the horse's mouth.

Taking a leisurely drive with Jake may sound like a Mom's typical daily task, but we all know Jake is not your typical preschooler.

Oh, Jake is so slick. At the young age of 2 (just a few days shy of turning 3), Jake already knows how to identify the pretty girls and how to get them to "notice" him.

This morning, I took Jake to see the movie Cars. We went to the first showing. I played it smart and bought tickets ahead of time, online.

Jake is reading several other books. This afternoon, Jake read Emergency and this evening he read Speedy Little Racecars. He's really picking up on the reading. I guess all this book reading we've been doing with him at every naptime and bedtime is paying off!

Jake stubbed his piggie-toe on something today. I'm not sure what happened or even when it happened, but as soon as I noticed it, Jake cried about it. I did the usual "let Mommy kiss it", but this time, Mommy's kiss just wasn't sufficient. Jake wanted a "band" on it. After he repeated it several times, I finally figured out he was asking for a band - AID. Oooooooh, a band - AID! Got it!

I woke this morning to Jake asking, "Where's my KFC chicken?" What? Maybe he was dreaming of KFC. Who knows?

Last night, Jake read the entire book "Good Morning, Digger!" from beginning to end without help! And, let me tell you, this is not a book that repeats. Erik and I can't believe it. We were saying last night that neither one of us can memorize it, even looking at the pictures! The only page I can recall is the first one.

Jake has wowed us a couple of times in the past two weeks. First, he drew a smilie face. Jake and I were sitting out on the driveway, coloring with chalk while we waited for Erik to get home from work.

The question of the day is: Will the rain ever stop? Everyday, all day long, the rain just keeps coming down. I'm so sick of the rain, I could spit (but that would add to the puddles). The patio is a lake and the yard is a swamp. The dogs hate going out in it because their paws are underwater and they get all wet standing in it to relieve themselves.

Jake's swingset arrived weeks ago. Now we're just waiting for the rain to stop so Erik can put it together. That should be a fun project! We're still working with Lab Rescue to try to find a home for Milo. It's been difficult since Milo is old and injured.

Jake's sick today. For the past couple of days, he's had liquid grayish-green BMs. It was so bad yesterday, that he filled an eniter diaper. I didn't know it until I pulled it off and it ran all over the floor.

Today, Erik had off work, so we decided to go bowling. It was Jake's second time bowling. This time, we got him his own lane so he could keep bowling without taking turns - that keeps him interested. It also allows for him to use the bumpers and we can bowl normally.

Well, it finally happened the other day. It was was inevitable. Yes, Charlie got out of his cage. I was upstairs taking a shower. I had locked the bedroom door to keep Jake in the room with me. He was watching cartoons, or so I thought. He managed to unlock the door and make his way downstairs. While playing with Charlie, he accidently tipped over Charlie's cage and Charlie got free. When I got out of the shower, Jake was back upstairs, so all of this was unknown to me. I finished getting ready, got Jake ready and headed down stairs. That's when I discovered what had happened. So that entire time, Charlie was loose. I figured by that point he had probably run off under the stove or somewhere where I wouldn't be able to capture him. Nope, I just happened to look under the chair right where his cage had tipped, and there was Charlie! Captured alive.

I guess Jake didn't like the blue color in his room. He decided, one day while in his room for a nap, that he would "paint" his room white. Oh, no. Not with paint. No, Jake used his creativity to make his room white - surfaces and all. Jake took his nearly full bottle of powder and dumped it into his fan, which was on.

Whew, have I been busy! I'll try to recap the last few weeks. Christmas brought many gifts - good and bad. First the good...The three of us celebrated Christmas here at home. There were a ton of presents under the tree awaiting Jake on Christmas morning. He kind of got the whole Christmas thing. We read "The Night Before Christmas" and "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" many, many times. He knew who Santa was, but wasn't sure he wanted to get up close and personal with him. So, it was very funny when Erik showed up at the door in a Santa suit on Christmas. Jake didn't know what to think! He was a little freaked out, but didn't cry. He just talked a lot. He definitely didn't know it was Erik. Santa brought Jake's new tricycle and scooter to the door with him. Although the scooter is a little advanced for him right now, he's a natural on the tricycle. We've used it many times since he got it. Erik made Christmas dinner - ham...the usuals.
